DRM: Dead End or Inevitable Arms Race?

Just whose rights does DRM manage and does it matter anymore?
Speculation is rife all over the ‘net that DRM (Digital Rights Management) is dying. Some would even claim that Steve Jobs killed it.
I don’t think so (on both counts), but then again I’ve been wrong before.
