They say progress is made in small steps.
I don’t necessarily subscribe to that theory. I think progress is made in leaps and bounds. The corollary, by the way, is that all progress is made by unreasonable people (G. B. Shaw). Shaw said “unreasonable men”, but I think we can assume he meant “people”.
Perhaps that’s why we have so many wars and so much strife? Completely unreasonable (and sometimes insane) people, convinced they represent true progress, pushing on against all warnings to the contrary, when in fact they represent madness and regression? Thanks a bunch, George Bernard.
I’ve made some progress lately, none of it in small steps and all of it reasonable.
Since I started a program of daily workouts I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. Around the beginning of the month I also changed my diet, and that made a huge difference. The rate of weight loss more than doubled, in fact it almost tripled, from the rate when I was just working out and following my normal diet, but eating less, of the previous two months. Compared to the no workout and normal, but eating less, diet rate of the previous eight months before that, it increased six times!
My new diet is simple: I eat only fish, chicken, fruit and greens. Whenever possible I substitute the fish or chicken for other sources of protein. I got the idea from a friend and I then researched it a bit on the ‘net. I found this article especially interesting. There’s also a pretty good article on vegetarianism on Wikipedia, for those that want to go all out.
Those who know me from back in Norway will by now be wondering if I’ve completely lost it and/or gone native. The only reply I can give is that I feel better and it works. That, and you can’t really argue with empirical data.
Well, you could, but that would be unreasonable.
